This quartet is a musical tour of four different locations around the east coast of the United States, starting in New York, where the music is volatile, gritty, and always in motion. The next stop is the much more tranquil Baltimore, where the music looks over the waters of the Chesapeake Bay beneath overcast skies. The piece then moves to a forested road in southeastern Pennsylvania, where I spent much of my childhood years, followed by a “jazzified” return to New York.
