As a violist, the clarinet is a very special instrument to me; the viola and the clarinet are often partners in the orchestra, and we share plenty of repertoire due to our similar ranges and timbres. I wrote this sonata not with any specific narrative or images in mind, but as a neoclassical love letter to the clarinet.
